"I wish that I could be like the cool kids, cuz all the cool kids they seem to fit in. I wish that I could be like the cool kids, like the cool kids."
How many of you read that and nodded because you know exactly what I'm talking about? I'm sure a lot of you understand that feeling. I know I do. I've had those same thoughts before. Everyone wants to be one of the cool kids. Everyone wants to fit in and feel loved. Heck, even the cool kids want to be the cool kids. Are you getting me? No one ever feels like they're good enough. This song makes my heart ache a little. I know how it feels to just want to fit in and feel like I belonged. Last week I had an experience where I just wanted to feel like I fit in. But the thing is, we weren't meant to fit in. We were made to stand out. Each of us were made unique.
My favorite bible verse is Romans 12:2 which says "And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind so that you may prove what the will of God is which is good, acceptable, and perfect." As a believer in Christ, I know I am called to be different. Don't conform to this world. That means you don't need to be one of the "cool kids."
Like I said earlier, the reason I find this song even more saddening is because there is no real resolve. They never realize that they don't need to fit in. But if your life were a song, would there be a solution at the end? Would you finally realize that you don't need all that? This is your life. You don't need to be one of the cool kids to feel loved, you are loved by God regardless of your social status. We'll all have our days where we want to be a part of the group but just always remember that you are more than that. You are valuable and precious.
